Bilyana Petrova is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BA in Economics, International Studies, and Latin American and Iberian Studies from the University of Richmond.
Her research spans comparative and international political economy with particular focus on Europe and Latin America. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Bulgaria, Chile, and Peru, examining structural transformations' impact on income distribution and governance quality's effect on state-sponsored redistribution.
Dr. Petrova has held prestigious postdoctoral positions at the Max Weber Programme at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy and at the Stone Center for Socio-Economic Inequality at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
Her scholarly work has been published in leading journals including the British Journal of Political Science, Review of International Political Economy, and Socio-Economic Review. Current research projects include a book manuscript examining determinants of market income inequality in Latin America and Eastern Europe, and another exploring social policy reforms in the post-communist world.
Her research interests include American financialization, the structure of tax havens, and factors affecting support for democracy in Central and Eastern Europe.
