Bill Whitehead is a Visiting Professor at the School of Nursing and Allied Health, University of Derby. He holds a PhD in adult education and clinical nurse education from the University of Nottingham and has over 30 years of nursing experience since 1990. His career includes leadership roles such as clinical lead at the University of Derby, deputy dean, and head of school. He has authored over 50 academic outputs with 500+ citations, focusing on nursing education, clinical research, and healthcare policy.

His research interests include nursing student practice assessment, preceptorship models, clinical education innovation, and advanced nursing practice. He leads the HEE-funded project on nursing student practice documentation and has pioneered work in e-learning and AR applications in clinical simulation. Current activities include supervising six doctoral projects at the University of Derby.
Publications highlight his contributions to pandemic-era clinical training, preceptorship toolkits, and maternal healthcare innovations. He is actively involved in the UK Clinical Nurse Educator Network's national leadership executive committee and holds FHEA and NMC memberships.
