Bill Kerr

Bill Kerr is a Professor and Director of the Graphic Design discipline at Dominican University. He integrates his expertise in art, design, business, and pedagogy into both academic and entrepreneurial endeavors, co-founding the Modern Quilt Studio with his wife Weeks Ringle in 1999. They pioneered the modern quilting movement, authoring the first book on the subject and launching Modern Quilts Illustrated, the first magazine dedicated to modern quilting.

His research interests span Illustration, Typography, Magazine Design, Textile Design, and Modern Quilting. His work has been featured in prominent publications like Dwell, O: The Oprah Magazine, and The New York Times, and he has led design workshops and lectures globally, including in Japan, France, and Australia. Bill’s professional activities include licensing fabric designs, tools, and products sold internationally.

Selected exhibitions include Modern Meets Modern at the International Quilt Museum (2021), Quilt Time Festival in Yokohama, Japan (2019), and Carrefour Européen du Patchwork in France (2018).
