Bill Guttentag is a Lecturer in Organizational Behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business since 2001. He holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania (1979), a John S. Knight Fellowship at Stanford (1999), and was a Fellow at the American Film Institute (1980). His expertise spans filmmaking, crisis management, and leadership in the entertainment industry. He teaches courses like The Entertainment Industry: An Intersection of Art and Commerce and Leadership in the Entertainment Industry.
Research interests include leveraging storytelling for social impact, organizational behavior in creative industries, and crisis communication strategies. His acclaimed films—such as Nanking, Only the Dead See the End of War, and Rule Breakers—have premiered at Sundance, Cannes, and Telluride, earning two Oscars, a Peabody, multiple Emmys, and other prestigious awards. He advises Silicon Valley companies like MasterClass and collaborates with institutions like the Stanford d.school.
Notable works include Masters of Disaster (a crisis management guide) and the novel Boulevard. He has served on film festival juries globally and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
