Dr. Bill DeJong serves as Assistant Professor of Religion and Theology at Redeemer University, alongside roles as Faculty-Chaplain and Director of Mentoring. He holds a Ph.D. in Theological Studies from McMaster Divinity College (2017), with a focus on Eucharistic reciprocity and gratitude. His research interests span Practical Theology, Ethics, Spiritual Formation, and Ecclesiology.
Education includes a B.A. from Redeemer University (1993), M.Div. from Mid-America Reformed Seminary (1996), and doctoral work culminating in his dissertation Eucharistic Reciprocity. He has extensive pastoral experience, including 30 years as a pastor in Canada and the U.S., most recently at Blessings Christian Church in Hamilton.
His academic work emphasizes gratitude's role in Christian practice and church community. He serves as a Fellow of the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology (Cambridge, UK) and chairs the Scripture and Church Seminar at the Institute for Biblical Research. His publications explore liturgical theology, youth ministry, and ecumenical dialogue.
Awards include the Duncan R. MacNab Scholarship (2012) and Gordon S. Martin Scholarship (2011). His teaching spans Reformed worldview studies, biblical theology, and spiritual formation pedagogy. He actively engages in mentoring faculty and staff through his directorship role.
