Dr. Bill Burgwinkle is a Professor of Medieval French and Occitan Literature at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the French (MML) department within the School of Arts and Humanities. He is a leading scholar in medieval literature, gender and sexuality studies, and queer theory.
- PhD from Stanford University
- Specializes in Comparative medieval literature (French, Occitan, Italian & Catalan)
- Active in interdisciplinary research through the lgbtQ+@cam initiative (2018-2024)
His research explores Occitan networks and biography, the intersection of history and literature, and theories of sexuality and the body. He is currently working on Occitan para-poetic texts and co-authoring a book on Medieval French Literary Cultures outside France, stemming from an AHRC Research project. As President of the UK Society for French Studies, he contributes to academic leadership in French studies.
