Bill Biligetu is an Associate Professor and Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Research Program (SRP) Chair in Forage Crop Breeding at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Agriculture and Bioresources, Department of Plant Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. (University of Saskatchewan), M.Sc. and B.Sc. (Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, China). His research focuses on breeding and genetics of forage crops adapted to the Prairie region of Western Canada, emphasizing molecular tools like RNA-Seq and marker-assisted selection. He has received notable awards including the Early Career Agronomist Award (2020) and Sask Forage Industry Innovation Award (2018).
- Education: Ph.D. University of Saskatchewan; M.Sc./B.Sc. Inner Mongolia Agricultural University
Research interests include genetic diversity in forage species, seed germination mechanisms, and sustainable forage systems. His work integrates genomic technologies with agronomic practices to enhance crop resilience in prairie environments. Key publications explore floral development in wheatgrass, molecular breeding techniques, and forage-legume mixtures.
- Awards: Early Career Agronomist Award (2020), Dean’s New Researcher Award (2018), Sask Forage Innovation Award (2018)
No formal advisees are listed, but his research contributes to collaborative projects in forage crop improvement. Courses taught include PLSC 418: Management of Arable Grassland.
