Bijan Yashar is Senior Adjunct Professor in the First Year Core Studio Program at California College of the Arts. An interdisciplinary artist working across photography, video, and digital media, he holds an MFA in New Genres from San Francisco Art Institute and an MA in Educational Psychology from UC Berkeley. His artistic practice explores themes of perception, technology, and cultural representation through projects examining powerlines, water surfaces, and digital image culture.
Professor Yashar's work has been exhibited at institutions including Torrance Art Museum, Napa Valley Art Museum, de Young Museum, and Pacific Film Archive. His photographic series like 'Illuminated' and 'Powerlines' investigate visual perception through glare manipulation and infrastructural landscapes. Current projects examine the intersection of digital technologies with traditional photographic practices and the evolving nature of image-making in contemporary culture.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, he develops curriculum in digital photography and time-based media at multiple institutions including Berkeley City College and UC Berkeley's Academic Talent Development Program. His pedagogical approach emphasizes technical proficiency alongside conceptual development, preparing students for diverse creative practices.
