Dr. Bharati Sethi is a Professor in the Department of Political Studies at Trent University and holds the Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Care Work, Ethnicity, Race and Aging. Her research focuses on the well-being of immigrant health-care workers, particularly paid personal support workers (PSWs), in suburban and rural communities like Peterborough and Brantford-Brant Counties. She aims to inform health-care policy and disseminate findings through accessible formats.
Her research interests include caregiving, arts-based methodologies, community-based participatory research, immigration, and racialized labor dynamics. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to mobilize cultural knowledge and advocates for policies addressing the precarious nature of care work.
Prof. Sethi mentors students exploring intersections of immigration status, race, socio-economic status, geography, and other identities impacting newcomers' well-being. She integrates arts-based methods to enhance public education on caregivers' lived experiences.
