Beyhan Yigit

Beyhan Yigit is a Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Adıyaman University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. With over 25 years of academic experience, she has progressed from Research Assistant to full Professor, establishing herself as a leading researcher in inorganic and organometallic chemistry, particularly in the field of N-heterocyclic carbene complexes and their catalytic applications.

Professor Yigit's primary research interests focus on inorganic and organometallic chemistry, with special emphasis on the synthesis and characterization of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of transition metals. Her work explores the catalytic properties of these complexes in various organic transformations, including hydrogenation, hydroamination, and C-C bond formation reactions. She has made significant contributions to understanding the structure-activity relationships of NHC-metal complexes and has recently expanded her research to include the biological applications of these compounds, particularly their enzyme inhibitory properties against carbonic anhydrase and acetylcholinesterase.

Her extensive publication record spanning from 1999 to 2025 demonstrates a consistent research trajectory focused on N-heterocyclic carbene chemistry. Recent work shows a clear evolution from fundamental studies on carbene complex synthesis and catalytic applications toward more applied research involving biological activity and medicinal chemistry applications. The last five years of publications reveal increasing interdisciplinary work, combining synthetic chemistry with biochemical and pharmacological investigations, particularly in developing compounds with potential therapeutic applications.

Professor Yigit has successfully supervised multiple graduate students, including:

Throughout her career, she has led and participated in numerous research projects funded by Inonu University Research Fund, TUBITAK, and Adıyaman University Scientific Research Projects Unit. Her administrative experience includes serving as Head of the Inorganic Chemistry Department (2012-2024) and as a Senate member (2021-2024).
