Beverly Lapham is a Professor in the Department of Economics at Queen's University, Canada, within the Faculty of Arts and Science. She holds a PhD (1990) from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. (1983) from Colorado State University. Her research focuses on international trade, international finance, industrial organization, and macroeconomics, with particular emphasis on exchange rate pass-through, cross-border shopping, and the productivity effects of trade.
Her research interests include analyzing how exchange rate fluctuations impact international price differences and retail industries, as well as the macroeconomic implications of trade policies. She has published extensively on topics such as consumer search behavior, firm dynamics, and the economic effects of cross-border travel restrictions, particularly during the pandemic.
Prof. Lapham has served as co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics and associate editor of the Journal of International Economics. She has also contributed to policy advisory roles, including membership in the Institute for Research on Public Policy Trade Advisory Committee and Statistics Canada’s International Trade Advisory Committee.
Her recent work explores theoretical and empirical models of exchange rate pass-through and firm heterogeneity, with a focus on structural gravity approaches and inter-provincial trade dynamics. Her research bridges theoretical economic models with real-world policy applications, emphasizing practical insights for trade and monetary policy.
