Beverly K. Johnson

Beverly K. Johnson is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Rheumatology) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Chief of Rheumatology at Jacobi and North Central Bronx Hospitals. She graduated from Brown University with an A.B. in Religious Studies (2001), earned her M.D. from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (2006), and completed a Master's in Epidemiology from Columbia Mailman School of Public Health (2013). Her research focuses on musculoskeletal ultrasound, lupus, quality improvement in rheumatology care, and clinical trials. She leads the musculoskeletal ultrasound program for Einstein rheumatology fellows and directs the Lupus Center at Jacobi Medical Center, actively conducting lupus clinical trials. She has pioneered quality improvement projects, including initiatives to enhance rheumatoid arthritis care in underserved populations, which led to her hospital being recognized as a model for RA care excellence. Dr. Johnson is fluent in Spanish and dedicated to providing equitable care in underserved communities.

Her educational background includes residencies at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and fellowships at Hospital for Special Surgery and Columbia University. She holds leadership roles in clinical programs and has contributed to guidelines on perioperative management for rheumatology patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. Her work integrates clinical practice with research to improve patient outcomes and address healthcare disparities.

Dr. Johnson’s research spans epidemiological studies in rheumatic diseases, musculoskeletal imaging, and translational clinical trials. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on topics such as perioperative biologic therapy in rheumatoid arthritis, outcomes of knee arthroplasty, and rare manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus. Her publications reflect a focus on bridging clinical care and population health.
