Beverley Essue

Beverley Essue is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health. She holds additional appointments as Visiting Scientist at the University of Miami's Institute for the Advanced Study of the Americas and Honorary Senior Fellow at the George Institute for Global Health, India.

She earned her PhD and MPH from the University of Sydney, and BSc (Honours) from the University of Toronto. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on improving health systems across three core areas:

• Strengthening financial risk protection
• Advancing equity and gender equality in health systems
• Developing equitable priority-setting frameworks for global health

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on health economics and policy challenges, particularly regarding non-communicable diseases and vulnerable populations. Recent work examines universal health coverage implementation, cancer care economics, and gender-based violence support systems.

• Canadian Women in Global Health (2020)

She leads global health initiatives including the Disease Control Priorities project and Lancet Taskforces on NCDs and Cancer/Health Systems. Her research group collaborates extensively across low- and middle-income countries.
