Professor Beverley Clough is a Professor of Law and Social Justice at Manchester Law School, University of Manchester. Her research focuses on the intersections of health law, disability law, and social care, employing feminist legal theory and critical disability studies. Key themes include mental capacity, consent to intimacy, law and disability in domestic spaces, and UNCRPD temporality. She holds editorial roles at Medical Law Review and the International Journal of Disability and Social Justice, and serves on the Socio-Legal Studies Association executive board.
Clough earned her PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence from the University of Manchester (2015), with prior academic roles at the Universities of Liverpool and Leeds. Notable works include her monograph The Spaces of Mental Capacity Law (2021), shortlisted for the SLS Peter Birks Prize. Her research bridges legal frameworks and lived experiences, emphasizing spatial and temporal dimensions of law.
Her teaching spans Tort Law, Medical Law, and Pro Bono projects. Supervision interests include disability law, health law, and theories of justice. Awards include an ISRF Early Career Fellowship (2018) for studying mental capacity law's spatial dimensions.
