Betty Rosen is a Researcher at King's College London's Department of Music, within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. She holds a Ph.D. in Arabic and Hebrew Literature from UC Berkeley's Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures and Program in Critical Theory, an MA from SOAS University of London, and a B.A. from Harvard College. Her work focuses on premodern Arabic and Hebrew aesthetics, particularly the concept of al-badī' in Mamluk Egypt, and explores translinguistic creativity across Islamic and Jewish contexts. Rosen also investigates medieval Mediterranean poetic practices through the MUSLIVE project, examining linguistic creativity and social networks in Arabic and Hebrew texts.
Her research bridges close textual analysis with interdisciplinary discourse on creativity, rhetoric, and literary theory. Teaching includes Arabic language and courses on the SWANA region's cultural diversity at UC Berkeley. Rosen's creative background as a violist informs her study of embodied poetic performance.
