Dr. Betty Chaar is an Associate Professor in Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, specializing in professionalism and ethics. She holds a BPharm, Master of Health Law, and PhD in moral reasoning capabilities. Her roles include Chair of the Human Research Ethics Committee at Family Planning NSW and leadership in global pharmacy ethics through the International Federation of Pharmacy (FIP). She is a Fellow of FIP (2017) and serves on committees such as the Australian Pharmacy Council Examining Committee and the Pharmacy Board Peer Review committee.
Research focuses on pharmacy ethics, end-of-life care, hospital pharmacy practices, and culturally competent healthcare. Notable projects include the World Hospital Pharmacy Research Consortium (WHoPReC) and initiatives addressing opioid substitution treatment and health literacy in Arabic-speaking communities. She has supervised numerous PhD students in ethics, palliative care, and pharmacy services innovation.
Current projects explore end-of-life decision-making, healthcare equity for CALD populations, and ethical challenges in conscientious objection. Awards include the 2017 FIP Fellowship. Her work bridges academic research, policy advocacy, and clinical practice to enhance ethical standards and patient-centered pharmacy services globally.
