Bettina Arnold

Bettina Arnold is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, specializing in European Iron Age archaeology. Her research examines mortuary practices, gender constructions, and political uses of archaeological narratives.

Research domains include:

• Iron Age elite burial landscapes and social organization
• Archaeological interpretations of gender and power
• Political manipulation of heritage in Nazi Germany
• Museum collection ethics and provenance studies

Fieldwork at the Heuneburg hillfort complex revealed new insights into early Celtic societies through proteomic analysis of burial vessels and spatial mapping of tumuli clusters.

Directs the e-Keltoi journal and serves on editorial boards for Cambridge Elements in European Archaeology and Archaeological Dialogues.
