Professor Bettelou Los serves as Professor in the Department of Linguistics and English Language within the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. Her active teaching portfolio includes convening pre-honours linguistics courses and instructing specialized honours modules in Historical Linguistics and Early Germanic Dialects, with open accessibility for student consultations.
Her research program centers on historical syntax evolution with particular emphasis on:
- Discourse-pragmatic drivers of syntactic change
- Diachronic development of Germanic languages
- Information structure in Old/Middle/Early Modern English
- Historical emergence of non-finite constructions
Professor Los maintains affiliation with the Angus McIntosh Centre for Historical Linguistics and currently supervises six doctoral candidates investigating historical linguistic phenomena.
