Beth Wiemann

Beth Wiemann is a Professor of Composition, Clarinet, and Music Theory at the University of Maine, serving as Graduate Studies Coordinator in the School of Performing Arts. She holds a PhD in Theory and Composition from Princeton University and a degree from Oberlin College. Her work spans composition, performance, and interdisciplinary projects, with a focus on contemporary music and opera.

Her compositions have been performed globally by ensembles like Continuum and Parnassus, and she has received awards from the Orvis Foundation, Copland House, and others. Notable works include I Give You My Home (a chamber opera released as a film and CD) and Young Charlotte (featuring electronic sound).

Wiemann is a founding member of the Griffin Music Ensemble and collaborates with groups like Guerilla Opera. She teaches courses in composition, orchestration, and music theory, balancing academic leadership with artistic innovation.
