Beth Little serves as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design within the Department of Fine Arts and Communication at Concord University's College of Professional and Liberal Studies, a position she assumed in 2023 after returning to her native Virginia mountains to nurture emerging creatives.
Her educational credentials include an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design (2022), a BFA in Painting from Arizona State University (2007), and an Associate of Arts in Visual Communications from Collins College (1996). She graduated as valedictorian from Richlands High School in 1995.
Dr. Little's research centers on conceptual portraiture's capacity to transcend traditional representation through narrative symbolism, particularly in musician portraiture. She investigates how such works capture subjects' essence and cultural impact beyond physical likeness, evoking emotional responses that shape public memory and iconic status. Her MFA thesis specifically examined this approach with musicians, and her artistic style is characterized by a provocative blend of childish whimsy and sophisticated execution.
With over 25 years of professional practice since 1997, she combines graphic design expertise in print/publication layouts with illustration work spanning editorial portraits, book covers, and fine art across oils, watercolor, digital media, graphite, and charcoal.
