Beth King is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service, a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Managing Editor of the Journal of Development Effectiveness. She holds roles on the boards of 3ie, Room to Read, and the Education Commission-Asia, and advises organizations such as Echidna Giving, the World Bank’s Africa Gender Innovation Lab, and the Office of Population Studies (Philippines). Previously, she served as the World Bank’s senior spokesperson and professional head for global policy and strategic issues in education, and acting vice-president for human development sectors.
Her research focuses on human capital, labor markets, the care economy, and gender dynamics in development contexts. She has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and books analyzing these topics, with field experience in multiple developing countries. Dr. King holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.
Professional engagements include membership on the judging panel of the Yidan Prize Foundation and advisory roles across multilateral institutions and NGOs. Her work bridges academic research, policy implementation, and global development initiatives.
