Beth Ferri is a Professor in Inclusive Education and Disability Studies at Syracuse University's School of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Georgia (1997) with a focus on identity construction among women with learning disabilities. Her research bridges Disability Studies and Critical Race Theory (DisCrit), examining intersections of race, disability, and education equity.
Key areas of scholarship include: disability justice frameworks, anti-racist education, policy critiques of special education systems, and global analyses of inclusion. Recent work focuses on Black girls' erasure in disability discourse and anti-fascist educational practices. Ferri has authored/co-authored over 5 books including Enacting Disability Critical Race Theory (2023) and edited volumes like DisCrit Expanded (2022).
Her awards include the Joan N. Burstyn Research Award and multiple editorial roles across top journals like Teachers College Record. Ferri leads Syracuse's doctoral program in Special Education and has secured $5M+ in grants including the 5-year Project INCLUDE initiative. She advises major institutions globally on inclusive policy and regularly presents at international conferences.
Teaching emphases include critical disability studies, inclusive pedagogy, and special education leadership. Ferri's service work spans university governance, editorial leadership, and advocacy for disability rights in education systems worldwide.
