Beth Derderian is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the College of Wooster, specializing in Museum Studies. She holds a B.A. from Seattle University, M.A. from New York University, and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
Her research focuses on cultural production, politics of representation, and material culture with particular attention to the Middle East and Arabian Peninsula. Key themes include citizenship/national identity, migration, gender dynamics, and the intersection of art with sociopolitical contexts. She teaches courses like 'Introduction to Museum Studies' and 'Anthropology of Globalization.'
Her publications analyze UAE cultural policies through contemporary art exhibitions and gender dimensions in regional art scenes. Notable awards include a Fulbright Fellowship and recognition from the Association for Gulf & Arabian Peninsula Studies.
