Beth Boynton, DVM, is a Professor of Wellness and Director of the Hill's Wellness Center at the Wellness College of Veterinary Medicine, Western University of Health Sciences, since September 2003. She holds a DVM from the University of Minnesota (1980) and a BA in Biology-Chemistry from Skidmore College (New York).
Her teaching focuses on clinical skills, wellness care, nutrition, and client communication. She pioneered roles such as the 'Community Practice Veterinarian' at the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, emphasizing preventative care, parasite prevention, and human-animal bond education. She leads the veterinary communication curriculum since 2005 and co-designed the 'Practice Readiness' course for third-year students.
Research interests center on veterinary education and communication. She has received the Faculty Appreciation Award twice and multiple teaching incentive awards. As faculty advisor, she guides student chapters of the American Animal Hospital Association and American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Her philosophy emphasizes collaborative, lifelong learning. She directs the Hill's Wellness Center, integrates clinical studies with non-technical competencies, and uses standardized client programs in teaching. Outside academia, she enjoys gardening, sailing, and outdoor activities with her family and pets.
