Dr Beryl Buckby is a Clinical Psychologist and Lecturer at James Cook University's College of Healthcare Sciences, specializing in clinical supervision, psychopathology, and mental health interventions. Her research focuses on young-onset dementia, PTSD, suicide prevention, and interprofessional education. With 25 years of experience, she has worked in forensic mental health, residential care for older adults, and private practice. Notably, she co-founded a memory and carer support clinic in 2008 and contributed to a PTSD program for non-military populations.
Research Interests: Beryl’s work emphasizes clinical practice innovations, including person-centered care and interprofessional collaboration. Her projects address mental health challenges across diverse populations, such as Indigenous women’s postnatal mental health and the impact of heartbreak on student wellbeing. She advocates for culturally informed suicide prevention strategies and resilience-building in higher education.
Collaborations: Partnered with Prof Ed Helmes to establish the JCU Psychology Clinic’s memory support services and led a 12-week PTSD program (2010-2015). Her recent articles explore ADHD, workplace bullying, and maternal guilt, reflecting her commitment to bridging clinical and academic domains.
