Bertrand Blancheton is a Professor of Economics at the University of Bordeaux, where he conducts research in economic and financial history. He is affiliated with the GREThA (Research Group in Theoretical and Applied Economics) and has held visiting positions at the University of California and the University of Bayreuth, Germany. He also teaches at Sciences Po Paris and Bordeaux.
His research focuses on international economic history, public debt and deficit, globalization and trade policy, and the luxury economy, particularly the Cognac and luxury leather sectors in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. He examines how trade barriers evolve with political and economic contexts and assesses the sustainability of public debt in France.
Bertrand Blancheton is actively engaged in public discourse, publishing in outlets like La Croix, Le Nouvel Economiste, Le Figaro, and Economie Matin. He has authored and edited several academic books, including Introduction to Economic Policies (2020) and History of Economic Facts (3rd ed., 2017).
