Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bertram Kühn is the Head of Department at the Department of Steel, Composite and Timber Construction at Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences. His academic qualifications include a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) from RWTH Aachen University (2005) and a diploma in Civil Engineering from the same institution (1998). His professional roles include chairman of the European Expert Group WG 6.1 on steel bridge assessments, member of the German Bridge Construction Association (DSTV), and leadership roles in European standards committees (e.g., CEN EN 1993-1-10).
Research interests focus on structural engineering, material toughness, fracture mechanics, and sustainable construction materials. Key areas include composite timber-steel systems, bridge safety, and fatigue assessment of existing structures. He has authored/co-authored over 74 publications, including works on brittle fracture prevention, acoustic emission monitoring, and material selection for offshore foundations.
Prof. Kühn leads the TransMIT Center for Design and Structure (ZKT) and holds independent doctoral supervision rights via the THM-JLU-Marburg Doctoral Center. His awards include the 2005 Bochers-favour for an outstanding thesis. Professional activities span technical editing (AI magazine), international standardization work, and academic leadership.
