Berthe Katrine Fiil is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She is also affiliated with the Skin Immunology Research Center. Her research focuses on the role of Met1 conjugated ubiquitin in host-pathogen interactions.
Dr. Fiil's research spans immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology, with particular emphasis on ubiquitin signaling pathways and their critical role in inflammatory responses and host defense mechanisms. Her work investigates how Met1-linked ubiquitin chains regulate immune responses during infections and how disruptions in these pathways can lead to inflammatory diseases. She has made significant contributions to understanding the molecular mechanisms of innate immune signaling through her research on proteins like CYLD, OTULIN, SPATA2, and LUBAC.
Her research has been widely recognized with publications in high-impact journals including EMBO Reports, iScience, Cell Death and Differentiation, Cell Reports, Molecular Cell, and Nature Communications. Her work has garnered significant attention in the scientific community, as evidenced by citation metrics showing multiple papers with over 100 citations, and social media engagement across platforms like Twitter (X) and Mendeley.
Dr. Fiil has established numerous collaborations both within and outside the University of Copenhagen, working with researchers like M. Gyrd-Hansen on multiple publications. Her research has gained broader recognition beyond academic circles, with mentions in news outlets, social media, and even Wikipedia, indicating the wider impact of her work in immunology and host-pathogen interactions.
