Bert Guillou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kentucky, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on equivariant homotopy theory, homotopy theory, and their applications in algebraic topology. Guillou earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2008) under Peter May, and a B.S. in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Michigan (2002). He has held academic positions including Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois (2011-2012) and J.L. Doob Research Assistant Professor (2008-2011).
His research interests emphasize foundational questions in equivariant stable homotopy theory, including models of G-spectra, slice filtration, and motivic cohomology. Guillou has advised multiple Ph.D. students, including Ang Li (now at UCSC) and Carissa Slone (Rochester). He is a recipient of significant grants, including the Simons Foundation Travel Support (2024-2029) and multiple NSF grants, and has delivered invited talks at institutions like the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, and international conferences.
Teaching spans advanced courses like Topology I/II, Algebraic Topology, and specialized topics such as Chromatic Homotopy Theory and Equivariant Cohomology. His work bridges categorical structures, homotopy coherence, and computational methods in stable homotopy theory.
