Professor Berry Billingsley is the Director of Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Online Development within the Department of Education at Swansea University. As Principal Investigator of the Epistemic Insights and Futures of Knowledge Initiative, she develops interdisciplinary tools to explore Productive Artificial Intelligence and its implications for human agency. Formerly with the BBC (Tomorrows World, Blue Peter, World Service), she transitioned to education, creating award-winning STEM resources for youth engagement.
Research Focus: Her work bridges AI ethics, digital pedagogy, and interdisciplinarity. Current priorities include:
- Creative/ethical AI applications enhancing human cognition
- University knowledge-skill ecosystems
- Balancing digital innovation with in-person learning
Teaching: Convenes the Master's module 'Digital Education & Practice' and contributes across foundational/undergraduate levels. Modules include critical analysis of digital pedagogy, open educational resources, and Wales' Digital Competence Framework.
Supervision: Currently co-supervises PhD research on AI's role in reducing teacher workloads (with Dr Michelle Brinn) and digital professional development (with Prof Andrew James Davies).
