Prof Bernhard Schmidt is a Professor at the Division of Mathematical Sciences within the School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He holds a Diploma in Mathematics from Justus-Liebig-University (1993), a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Augsburg (1995), and a Habilitation in Mathematics (2001). Prior to NTU, he held academic positions at the University of Augsburg and the California Institute of Technology. His research focuses on Finite Geometry, Algebra, Combinatorics, and Algebraic Number Theory, with notable contributions to Hadamard matrices, difference sets, and cyclotomic fields. He has received the 1997 Kirkman Medal and the 2006-2008 Teaching Award at NTU. His work spans over 50 publications, including seminal papers on nonexistence proofs, combinatorial designs, and algebraic structures. He currently leads research in discrete mathematics and collaborates internationally, contributing to both theoretical advancements and applications in cryptography.
