Bernhard Gunter

Bernhard Gunter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at American University, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD in Economics from American University and additional degrees from Georgetown University and Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg. His research focuses on development macroeconomics, debt sustainability, globalization impacts, and Bangladesh's economic challenges, particularly climate change and poverty reduction strategies. Dr. Gunter is the President of the Bangladesh Development Research Center (BDRC) since 2007 and has extensive affiliations with international organizations like the World Bank and African Development Bank.

Education includes a PhD (1998, American University), MA (1993, Georgetown University), and a Diplom-Volkswirt (1991, Freiburg). He teaches courses on development economics, macroeconomics, and public economics, emphasizing ethical reasoning in policy analysis.
