Bernd Simon

Prof. Dr. Bernd Simon is a Professor and Head of the Department of Social Psychology & Political Psychology at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. As Director of the Tolerance Research Unit Kiel (KFT) and spokesperson for a DFG-funded research unit, his work focuses on intergroup relations, respect dynamics, and societal pluralism. His research spans topics like tolerance mechanisms, collective identity politicization, and power structures in multicultural contexts.

Simon holds a doctorate in philosophy (Dr. phil.) and has authored over 50 publications since 2001. His theoretical contributions include frameworks on respect theory and the role of recognition in social cohesion. Recent work examines respect's role in reducing intergroup polarization and promoting cooperation in diverse societies.

He has held office hours since 2024 via teleconference and is affiliated with multiple research networks. His teaching includes lectures on social psychology and political psychology, emphasizing empirical methods and societal applications.
