Bernd Schröder

Prof. Dr. Bernd Schröder is a Professor of Practical Theology with a focus on Religious Education and Educational Research at the Faculty of Theology, Georg-August University of Göttingen. He has held leadership roles including Ephorus of the Theological Seminary (2013-2022), Dean of the Faculty of Theology (2019-2021), and Chairman of the Comenius Institute. Protestant Centre for Educational Science (since 2021).

• Doctorate in Philosophy (Jewish Studies) from Free University of Berlin (1994)
• Habilitation in Practical Theology, University of Münster (1999)

His research explores the development of religious education through multiple lenses: empirical, historical, systematic-hermeneutic, comparative, and didactic. Current projects focus on ecumenical learning, cross-cultural educational traditions in Judaism and Islam, and hermeneutics in religious education. He contributes to initiatives like the DFG-funded network Dimensions of Religious Education-Hermeneutic Research and the collaborative research center Education and Religion in Cultures of the Mediterranean.
