Bernard Walsh's research interests center on the intersection of art, media, and representation. He investigates how versions of reality are constructed and presented through various media channels, particularly television, cinema, and the internet. His work often takes the form of performance, audio-visual installation, and publication that reveals aspects of the self through these media forms. Walsh explores the relationship between viewer and image, questioning how lifestyle representations shape our understanding of reality.
His recent artistic output demonstrates a consistent exploration of performance art, visual culture, and the relationship between media and reality. The works span from lecture-performances examining the nature of art education to installations exploring ephemeral spaces and visual narratives. Walsh frequently engages with philosophical questions about art's role in society and education, while maintaining a strong connection to visual and performative practice.
Walsh has presented his work at international conferences including the 6th International Conference on the Arts in Society in Berlin, The International Image Conference in Los Angeles, and the Space Between Conference in Perth, Western Australia.
His professional projects include design work for publications such as Routledge U.S.A.
