Bernard Simon is an Associate Professor at the University of Le Havre, specifically at the University Institute of Technology of Le Havre in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing. He has held this position since 2018 after completing his academic journey through prestigious institutions in France and Canada.
- Licence de Physique, Université de Rennes 1 (2006-2009)
- Master en Ingénierie Acoustique, Université Pierre et Marie Curie Paris VI (2009-2011)
- Doctorat en Acoustique Physique, Laboratoire d'Imagerie Biomédicale, Université Pierre et Marie Curie Paris VI (2011-2014)
- Post-doctorat, Université de Montréal, Canada (2015-2016)
- Post-doctorat, Laboratoire de Mécanique et d'Acoustique, CNRS – Aix-Marseille Université (2016-2018)
Simon's research spans three primary domains: underwater acoustic metasurfaces and metagriddings, underwater noise in the Bay of Seine, and ultrasonic characterization of 3D-printed materials. His methodological approach integrates analytical techniques, numerical modeling (particularly finite element methods), and experimental validation. His recent publications reveal a sophisticated understanding of wave manipulation in underwater environments, with applications in underwater communication, marine conservation, and biomedical diagnostics.
His scholarly output demonstrates a consistent progression from fundamental acoustic research to practical applications. The trajectory of his work shows increasing focus on environmental applications of acoustics, particularly concerning underwater noise pollution and its ecological impacts, alongside continued contributions to biomedical ultrasonics.
- Outstanding Paper Award from IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (2017)
As an educator, Simon teaches digital electronics and industrial automation at the undergraduate level. Since 2024, he has served as Director of Studies and responsible for internships. His research leadership is evident in projects like the RIN "MSA" initiative (2019-2021) focused on acoustic meta-surfaces for underwater noise reduction, and the ongoing FEAMPA "EBESCO" project (2024-2027) examining underwater noise effects on commercially important marine species in collaboration with IFREMER and the Normandy regional fishing committee.
