Professor Bernard Richmond KC is an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent’s Kent Law School. He holds multiple senior legal roles, including Recorder (2002), Bencher of Middle Temple (2005), QC (2006), Assistant Coroner (2012), and Deemster & Deputy High Bailiff of the Isle of Man (2016). As a practising silk, he specializes in criminal defense, inquests, and cases involving vulnerable individuals. He is Head of Lamb Building Chambers since 2013 and an associate tenant at Central Chambers in Manchester.
His research focuses on advocacy theory and practice, criminal law, ethics, and legal education. He actively contributes to legal training through Middle Temple Advocacy as Director of Studies and chairs committees on legal education. He has led high-profile cases like the Grenfell Tower Inquiry’s vulnerability hearings and the Baby P case. Committed to pro bono work and social mobility, he advocates for diversity in the legal profession.
Professor Richmond’s awards include QC (2006) and his leadership roles reflect his expertise. He supervises research on advocacy, ethics, and access to justice. Currently, he is authoring a textbook on advocacy and case preparation.
