Bernard J. Feldman is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), with a career spanning over four decades at the institution. He has held significant administrative roles, including Chair of the Department (2010-2014), Associate Dean of the UMSL/Washington University Joint Undergraduate Engineering Program (2000-2018), and Interim Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (1998-2000).
Education:
- PhD in Physics from Harvard University (1972)
- MA in Physics from Harvard University (1968)
- BA in Physics from University of California, Berkeley (1967)
- AA in Physics from City College of San Francisco (1965)
Research Interests: His work bridges diverse fields such as Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, and Biophysics. Notably, he investigates cell phone radiation and health effects, automobile engine efficiency, bridge failure mechanisms, and scientific ethics. His research combines theoretical and experimental approaches to address real-world problems in energy, transportation, and public health.
Publications: Feldman has contributed extensively to physics education and policy, with recent works focusing on cell phone radiation, bridge failures, and scientific ethics. His pedagogical approach emphasizes practical applications, as seen in articles on automobile accidents and bridge design.
Professional Activities: As Chairman of the American Physical Society's Small Committees Program (1988-2001), he organized over 200 committees to support physicists facing human rights violations globally.
