Dr. Berit Lange is a physician and epidemiologist currently serving as the Acting Head of the Department of Epidemiology at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and interim head of the same department. She holds a clinical and research leadership role in the Clinical Epidemiology team.
- Studied medicine in Freiburg, Madrid, Chile, and Peru
- Master of Science in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2013)
Her research focuses on respiratory infections, disease burden analysis, and pandemic prevention strategies. She employs multicenter cohort studies, surveillance data, evidence syntheses, and infection modeling to evaluate interventions against infectious diseases.
Recent publications highlight her work in social contact dynamics during pandemics, disease modeling, and intersectional analysis of health disparities. Key collaborative projects include the IMMUNEBRIDGE and RESIST Senior Individuals Cohort.

She has contributed to policy development in tuberculosis, diabetes comorbidities, and healthcare resilience, with extensive publications in BMC, Infection, Euro Surveill, and other journals.
