Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Researchمعرفی
Dr. Bennet Juhls is a Research Fellow at the Alfred Wegener Institute within the Permafrost Research department. His work focuses on Arctic biogeochemistry, permafrost degradation dynamics, and ocean color remote sensing applications. He holds a postdoctoral position under the Polar Terrestrial Environmental Systems research group.
His research emphasizes Siberian Arctic river systems like the Lena Delta, investigating dissolved organic matter fluxes, submarine permafrost dynamics, and the impacts of climate change on coastal environments. Key projects include the MOSAiC Arctic drift expedition and the CACOON initiative analyzing land-ocean organic carbon fluxes.
Dr. Juhls has authored/co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work appearing in Biogeochemistry, Frontiers in Earth Science, and The Cryosphere. His fieldwork spans Siberia and the Canadian Arctic, combining remote sensing techniques with in situ measurements.
He is actively involved in Arctic nearshore turbidity algorithm development (ANTA) and has contributed to submarine permafrost mapping models (SuPerMAP). Current research priorities include understanding permafrost vulnerability using ESA Climate Change Initiative datasets and tracing permafrost-derived carbon pathways in Arctic shelf seas.
