Benjamin Valentino is a Professor in the Department of Government and the Associate Dean for the Social Sciences at Dartmouth College. His research focuses on the causes, consequences, and prevention of violent conflict. He co-created the Early Warning Project, which assesses risks of mass atrocities globally using advanced methods. He teaches courses on international relations, security, American foreign policy, and genocide prevention.
Valentino earned a BA in Political Science from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from MIT's Political Science Department. His work appears in outlets like The New York Times, Foreign Affairs, and academic journals such as American Political Science Review and Security Studies. His book Final Solutions: Mass Killing and Genocide in the 20th Century won the Edgar S. Furniss Book Award for contributions to national/international security studies.
