Roles and Affiliations
Benjamin Schröter is a Researcher at the Department of Mathematics within the School of Engineering Sciences at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He is also a developer of the open-source software polymake for polyhedral geometry and the computer algebra system OSCAR. Previously, he held positions as an interim professor at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, a postdoc at KTH, and a Riley Assistant Professor at Binghamton University.
Education
- PhD in Discrete Mathematics/Geometry from Technische Universität Berlin, advised by Michael Joswig.
Research Interests
His research focuses on discrete and convex geometry, including matroid theory, optimization, and tropical geometry. He actively develops mathematical software tools, such as polymake and OSCAR, to advance computational methods in these fields. His work bridges theoretical advancements with practical software implementation.
Funding and Recognition
His research is supported by a Starting Grant from the Swedish Research Council. He joined the editorial board of Experimental Mathematics in 2024. His contributions to matroid theory in OSCAR are highlighted in the chapter on matroids in the OSCAR book.
Teaching
He has taught courses across multiple institutions, including:
- Algebra and Geometry (KTH, 2023–2024)
- Discrete Mathematics (Binghamton University, 2019–2020)
- Introduction to Computer-oriented Mathematics (TU Berlin, 2016–2017)
Professional Activities
He organizes international events such as the MaP-Trop seminar series on matroids, polytopes, and tropical geometry. Recent engagements include workshops at venues like the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences and the Institut Mittag-Leffler.
