Benjamin Schröter

Benjamin Schröter is a Riley Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, State University of New York at Binghamton. He earned his doctoral degree from Technische Universität Berlin under Michael Joswig's supervision. His research bridges pure and applied mathematics with computational implementations.

Research Focus: Schröter works at the intersection of discrete mathematics and algebra, with emphasis on:

• Structural analysis in matroid theory and polyhedral geometry
• Algebraic frameworks including commutative algebra and tropical geometry
• Algorithmic approaches to combinatorial optimization
• Development of the open-source computational software polymake

In 2019, he collaborated with Yue Ren at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (MPI MiS) on research involving parallel computation techniques for tropical varieties and Grassmannians.
