Prof. Dr. Benjamin Rott is a Professor of Mathematics and its Didactics at the University of Cologne. He leads the Institute for Mathematics Education and conducts research on mathematical problem-solving, heuristics, process regulation, mathematical creativity, and epistemic beliefs in teacher education. His work includes projects like MALU (Math AG at Leibniz University Hannover), MBF2 (Mathematical Talent in Focus), ProKlaR (Problem Solving in the Classroom), and LeScEd (Learning the Science of Education).
- Current projects focus on classroom heuristics, mathematical talent identification, and critical thinking in teacher training.
- Funded by institutions including BMBF, Mercator Stiftung, and Niedersächsisches Kultusministerium.
His research group includes members such as Janine Dick, Peter Gonscherowski, and alumni like Raja Herold-Blasius. He has supervised numerous doctoral theses and received awards like the Professor of the Year 2021 in Humanities/Social Sciences/Cultural Sciences from the UNICUM Foundation.
