Dr. Montemayor's research examines social-ecological determinants of substance use, alcohol-related cancer risk perception, and ethical challenges in high-risk population studies. He applies theoretical frameworks to predict substance use behaviors and develop tailored interventions, with growing emphasis on polysubstance use and cultural risk factors among minority populations.
His notable recognitions include:
- ADVANCE Diversity Champion (2021)
- Kay and Jerry Cox Fellow (2021)
- RETI Fellow at Fordham University (2023)
As an active mentor, Dr. Montemayor advises undergraduate researchers through Texas A&M's LAUNCH program and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Research Scholars initiative, while serving on the university's JED Steering Committee for mental health initiatives. His work bridges clinical intervention development with policy-shaping research on substance use disorders.
