Benjamin Mackay serves as Senior Lecturer in Interior Design and School Recruitment Lead at Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). His practice centers on human and place narratives, with international design projects spanning Sydney, New York City, Ahmedabad (India), London, and Cambridge.
Education:
- BA (Hons) Interior Design, ARU
- PG Cert. Learning and Teaching, ARU
- MA Narrative Environments, University of the Arts London
His research investigates Late 19thC/Early 20thC English Art Schools and the female gaze in placemaking. Mackay is developing a critical framework examining Art School narratives—questioning institutional identity and collective art learning through rehabilitated historical lenses, extending his paused PhD studies. This work intersects design history, spatial theory, and gender studies.
Professional Impact: Mackay leads recruitment initiatives while translating research into practice through projects like the ARUP-collaborated 'Future Campus' for Imperial College London and inclusive play equipment for children with behavioral/physical differences in Ahmedabad, India. His teaching includes Studio Culture modules emphasizing narrative-driven design pedagogy.
