Benjamin John Ward is a documentary filmmaker, creative producer, and educator affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Society. His work focuses on cross-cultural storytelling, creative media production, and collaborations with Indigenous communities in Australia's Northern Territory, Central/Western Desert regions, and North East Arnhem Land. He has been based in the Northern Territory since 1996 and holds a PhD through a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program.
Research interests include documentary film production for television and streaming platforms, independent art projects, and narrative methods engaging Indigenous knowledge systems. He has led or contributed to major projects such as the GREENSKIN Warrior Traditions in Defence of Country (Principal Investigator) and Caring for Cosmologies: Making Living Maps for West Miyarrka (Chief Investigator).
His projects emphasize collaborative research with Indigenous peoples, focusing on topics like land defense, cultural mapping, and cosmological knowledge. Ward’s work bridges creative practice and academic research, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches to storytelling and cultural preservation.
