Benjamin Horne is an Assistant Professor at the School of Information Sciences in the College of Communication and Information at The University of Tennessee Knoxville, with a joint appointment in the Data Science and Engineering program at The Bredesen Center. He holds multiple affiliations, including being a Founding Fellow of the CCI Information Integrity Institute, an Affiliate of the Center for National Security and Foreign Affairs at the Baker School, and a member of the Center for the Dynamics of Social Complexity in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Horne is a computational social scientist specializing in media ecosystems, trust dynamics, and information interventions for mis/dis/malinformation. His methodology combines machine learning, natural language processing, and network science applied to digital trace data, alongside large-scale experiments and surveys. Key themes in his work include content moderation, AI ethics, and technological impacts on democratic norms.
His recent articles focus on partisan media consumption, alt-tech platforms like BitChute, climate change communication, and cross-border information warfare in Ukraine-Russia and Georgia contexts.
