Benjamin Degen is an Adjunct Instructor at The Cooper Union's School of Art. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Cooper Union in 1998. He founded and leads the Drawings Practice program. Degen has taught at institutions including Cooper Union, Rhode Island School of Design, SUNY Purchase, Brooklyn College, Vassar College, Pioneer Works, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His artwork has been exhibited internationally at venues such as MoMA PS1, the Collezione Maramotti, the William Benton Museum of Art, and the Weatherspoon Art Museum. His work is held in collections at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Collezione Maramotti, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Tang Museum.
His research interests focus on image-making as a process for learning/teaching, connection, vision, and transformation. He emphasizes the role of drawing in fostering creative and pedagogical practices, advocating for art as a medium of inquiry and social engagement.
