Benjamin Cheung, PhD, PEng serves as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta, specializing in advanced composite materials research and mechanical design education.
His research centers on tubular braided composites (TBCs), encompassing manufacturing/testing methodologies, micro-CT-based non-destructive analysis of textile composites, optical strain measurement via digital image correlation (DIC), and continuous curing strategies during production. Key focus areas include:
- Mechanics and Materials
- Composites and Polymers
- Non-destructive Testing
- Digital Image Correlation
- Composite Manufacturing
- Strain Measurement
Dr. Cheung instructs foundational mechanical design courses including MEC E 260 (Mechanical Design I) covering component analysis, electric motor integration, and CAD projects, and MEC E 360 (Mechanical Design II) addressing failure theories, material fatigue, gear/bearing systems, and advanced CAD applications for undergraduate engineers.
